Solutions > Availability Availability
Availability is a fashionable and timely concept of IT. It means the proportion of time during which a machine, a system, or a network is capable of carrying out its tasks completely.
One of the greatest tasks to be solved by organizations operating important IT systems is the elimination or shortening of system downtimes. According to a survey, one out of five organizations - banks, companies, governmental organizations - stated they would be incapable during a significant computer outage of operating for more than a couple of hours without immediate access to their IT services.
Polygon provides several modern software based solutions for ensuring high availability and for restoring the data after disasters. One research study has shown that the non-planned halting of the systems is generally caused by operator errors, software errors, environmental conditions, and other non hardware related event problems that cannot be prevented with reliable hardware. Availability supporting software may also be
grouped according to several aspects. They may be divided according to their
operation environment − iSeries, Windows, Linux, AIX, etc. − or according to
their operation principles − cluster and mirror solutions etc. Polygon
primarily applies the following solutions in practice: MIMIX HA1, Vision
Cluster1, EchoStream and EchoCluster, Power HA, Double-Take for Windows and
GeoCluster.
